Smoke Detector Program

Purpose

  • To provide free smoke detectors to all South Walton residents.
  • To meet South Walton's Strategic Plan of creating "Safer and Healthier Neighborhoods".
Goal

  • To prevent the loss of life from fire in South Walton.
  • To have 100% of residences in the South Walton area protected by an installed and functional smoke detector within 5 years.

What are the requirements to receive a free smoke detector?

You must be a resident of South Walton.

How do I get a smoke detector?

Call the Fire Department's Neighborhood Safety Hotline at 850-267-1298 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

What happens once I call and make a request?

Your name, address and phone number will be logged into a Request Log. South Walton Fire District personnel will then contact you by telephone to schedule an appointment convenient for you to install your smoke detector(s). Due to the large number of requests, you should anticipate a 2 to 3 week time period before being contacted. Please be patient, we are using our on-duty firefighters to install the detectors as quickly as possible.
