MEETING MINUTES
SOUTH WALTON FIRE DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
January 9, 2006
Commissioners Present: Maurice Gilbert, Bill Fowler, Tom Cooper, Ed Wright, Harry Millsaps, Mike Stange
Commissioners Absent: None
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.
Special Awards: Former Commissioner Ed Lautzenheiser was presented a plaque for his service as an SWFD Fire Commissioner from 2001-2005.
SWFD Promotions: Robert Fleming, District Chief, Tommy Thompson, Lieutenant, Henry Apfelbach, Sergeant, Jason Honeybone, Sergeant, Charlee Lanier, Sergeant, Mark Youngblood, Sergeant.
Special Item: Annual Audit Report – Kevin Boyer of O’Sullivan/Creel, Certified Public Accountants.
On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to accept the minutes of the December 5, 2005 meeting.
Secretary/Treasurer Report – Commissioner Harry Millsaps
Attorney’s Report – On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to extend the Seagrove property lease from twenty-four (24) to twenty-six (26) months, and other minor changes as recommended by Attorney Ramey.
On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to perform a “Small Scale Amendment” regarding the SWFD CR 393 property and the SWFD CR 395 property.
On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to approve the monthly billing statement.
Chief’s Report –Chief Hallman reviewed the December 2005 and year end Emergency Response Activity Report. Chief Hallman informed the Board that the Lifeguard Proposal recommendation would take place on January 10, 2006.
Committee Reports – None
Unfinished/Old Business – SWFD Board Vacancy
On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to approve Jack Abbit for the Seat 3/Precinct 18 vacancy.
New Business – Surplus Equipment Disposal
On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to sell the two SWFD surplus fire trucks through a fire equipment broker and offer the surplus SCBA equipment to “needy” fire departments willing to pay for certification required by State Statute up to June 1, 2006. After June 1, 2006, any remaining surplus SCBA’s will be offered for sale through a fire equipment broker.
Public Comment: Commissioner Fowler commented on the new Dispatch Center and District Chief Anderson’s contribution to remodeling this facility.
Adjournment – On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 4:55 p.m.
