The South Walton Fire District’s Board of Fire Commissioners will hold a Regular Meeting on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Beach Headquarters Station.

Meeting Minutes – October 5, 2009

Commissioners Present: Maurice Gilbert, Jack Abbit, Brian Christenson, Harry Millsaps, Donna Crawford, Ed Wright
Commissioners Absent: Mike Stange
Call to Order: 4:00 p.m.
On a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to approve the minutes of the September 14, 2009 Board meeting.
Secretary/Treasurer Report: Harry Millsaps
Attorney’s Report: Lori Bytell, Attorney
Attorney Bytell will be meeting with Assistant Chief Anderson and Walton County Planning on Thursday, October 8, 2009 regarding the Station 3/Headquarters development order process.
On a motion duly made and seconded, the Board unanimously voted to approve Attorney Bytell’s monthly billing statement.
Chief’s Report:
SWFD personnel and staff attended a 9/11ceremony at the South Walton Annex.
The “Artists at Gulf Place” hosted the “Fence of Flags” event on September 11 and 12, 2009 to benefit the South Walton Fire District.
A service flag recognizing SWFD members serving our country overseas has been placed under the American flag at Station 3/Headquarters.
The MDA “Fill the Boot” campaign held on Labor Day weekend raised $7,000 due to the generosity and support of our community.
The tentative budget hearing was held on September 15, 2009 and the final budget hearing was held on September 23, 2009, finalizing the 2009/2010 budget.
Staff continues to meet with our local County commissioner, residents, and business owners regarding access issues.
An AirHeart-1 crew remembrance ceremony will be held on October 20, 2009, location to be announced.
Chief Talbert will be attending the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association Fall Board Meeting from October 22-23, 2009 in Ormond Beach.
The next Executive Session of the Board of Fire Commissioners will be held within the next two weeks. Commissioners will be notified via email.
The next Board meeting will be held on Monday, November 2, 2009.

Unfinished/Old Business:
Board Advisory/393 South/Asst. Chief Anderson
John Deere Landscaping, Inc. has officially withdrawn from the lease agreement regarding the 393 South property due to Scenic Corridor requirements and upgrades.
A “For Lease” sign will remain posted on the property. SWFD staff will continue to maintain this property and research options for the relocation of the recycle bins.
New Business:
Retirement Board Trustees
On a motion duly made and seconded, the Board voted unanimously that the SWFD Board of Fire Commissioners will contact community members with an interest in serving on the retirement board. Resumes of qualified candidates will be reviewed by the Board at the November 2, 2009 Board meeting.
Election of SWFD Board Officers
On a motion duly made and seconded, the Board voted unanimously to retain the current SWFD Board Officers for 2010; which include Maurice Gilbert, Chairman; Jack Abbit, Vice-Chairman and Harry Millsaps, Secretary/Treasurer.
Vice-Chair Jack Abbit recommended that Chief Talbert re-visit the possibility of false alarm fees and report to the Board in 2010 after compilation of the appropriate data.
